A painting by renowned Indian artist Krishna Hawlaji Ara is coming to the block at Clarke Auction in Westchester, NY on Sunday Sept. 30th.
The painting, a gouache on paper of multiple figures including beggars and a dog, is to be sold in as found condition.
Ara, a founding member of the Progressive Artists Group in Bomaby (now Mumbai), was the first contemporary Indian painter to utilze the female nude as a source not straying from the limits of naturism unlike his colleagues such as F.N. Souza. His work was rooted in the delight of ingenuity focusing on female nudes, still lifes and human figure studies.
