According to a report on Vibe.com, the 32-year-old actor, singer and comedian is negotiating a multi-million dollar deal for rights to the music dance show, which aired in syndication from 1971 to 2006 and featured performances by popular artists of the day, with an emphasis on soul and R&B acts.
Citing sources, the urban music website says that Cannon, who is married to current American Idol judge Mariah Carey, will reconfigure the show “in a modern-day format … with modern stars like The-Dream and Meek Mill commanding Soul Train dance lines.”
Last year, Cannon signed a first look deal with NBC in which he and his NCredible Entertainment manager/business partner Michael Goldman will develop scripted and unscripted efforts for the network. Plans are also in the works for a revival of Nick Cannon's improv show Wild 'N Out on MTV2.
