A new complex watch has been recently unveiled by Urwerk, the lovely EMC Watch, which comes with a manually wound movement and an electronic rate monitor as well. This will enable the wearer to obtain the precise timing rate on demand and he could also use that information to adjust the precision of the watch.
This is something that only professional watchmakers and their Witschi machines could do, but now anyone who’s going to own this complicated timepiece could do it. The bad part is that this incredibly complex hybrid electronic/mechanical movement comes with a price, a price that’s going to be around $120,000, which is more than staggering.
The monitoring unit from the Urwerk EMC Watch is powered by a micro generator with several cranks on the lever and the enery stored in a super capacitor that’s located right in the satin finished titanium and steel case. When activated, a tiny optical sensor on the balance wheel captures the preside rate of oscillation of the 4 hertz / 28,800 vph regulator for 3 seconds.
