Christie's Auction is hoping to set a new record for Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, when his 1909 oil masterpiece "Study for Improvisation 8" goes on sale this fall with an estimate of $20 to $30 million.
The painting, which has never been displayed in the U.S, is being sold by the Volkart Foundation, a trust founded by the Swiss commodities trading firm Volkart Brothers.
